The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced a financial reward of ₹51,000 for Onkar Singh, a Sikh student from Pakistan's Punjab province, in recognition of his outstanding performance in the annual matriculation examinations conducted by the Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education. Kulwant Singh Mannan, Chief Secretary of the SGPC, shared details of the decision, stating that the executive committee passed the resolution during a recent meeting following instructions from SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami. The decision aims to encourage and honor the student's exceptional academic achievements. Onkar Singh, who secured second position overall in the province, has demonstrated a consistent track record of academic excellence, having previously earned second place in his ninth-grade examinations as well. The student comes from a distinguished family background. His father, Dr. Mimpal Singh, serves as a member of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) and is a prominent figure in the medical and educational sectors. Dr. Mimpal Singh holds the distinction of being Pakistan’s first Sikh doctor and was previously conferred with the prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz award by the Government of Pakistan for his contributions. Highlighting the significance of the achievement, SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan noted that securing a top board position while belonging to the minority Sikh community in Pakistan is a matter of immense pride for the entire global Sikh community. He expressed confidence that Onkar Singh will continue to excel academically and bring further honor to the community through his hard work and dedication.
