The Chandigarh Police on Tuesday temporarily detained Sachin Pilot, the newly appointed Punjab Congress in-charge and former Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan, along with several top state Congress leaders, during a high-tension protest march toward the residence of Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. All detained leaders were released nearly an hour later, at approximately 3:00 PM. The demonstration began from the Punjab Congress Bhawan located in Sector 15, Chandigarh, as party leaders and workers marched to demand action against Minister Cheema. However, the situation escalated when security forces set up heavy barricades to block the rally from advancing. The confrontation quickly intensified as protesters attempted to climb over the barricades. In response, law enforcement personnel deployed water cannons to disperse the gathering crowd. Minor injuries were reported among both Congress workers and police personnel during the scuffle. Amid the chaos, Chandigarh Police took Sachin Pilot and other prominent party leaders into custody. The detained figures were held for roughly an hour before being officially released by the authorities.
