Ravneet Bittu Inspects Ongoing Redevelopment Work at Chandigarh Railway Station

Chandigarh : A high-level review meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Union Minister of State for Railways, Ravneet Singh Bittu, to assess the progress of the Rs.462-crore redevelopment project of Chandigarh Railway Station.

The meeting saw participation from senior officials of the Ministry of Railways, Railway Board, Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), and Northern Railway.The Minister directed officials to expedite remaining work and ensure minimal disruption to passengers during peak hours.

Being executed under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) model by RLDA, the project aims to transform the station into a modern, multimodal transport hub for the Chandigarh Tricity region. With 81% of physical work already completed, the revised completion deadline has been set for October 2025.

The station’s total development area spans 1,92,248 sq.m, with a built-up area of 27,383 sq. m. Key features include G+3 buildings on both Chandigarh and Panchkula sides, a 72m-wide central concourse, two 12m-wide foot overbridges, a 24,515 sq. m parking area, 30 lifts, 10 escalators, food courts, co-working spaces, and over 4,000 sq. m of commercial space.

Once completed, the upgraded station will be equipped to handle a projected daily footfall of over 1 lakh passengers by 2061, offering world-class amenities and seamless connectivity.
