MANN GOVT GIVES BIG GIFT OF CLEAN DRINKING WATER TO RESIDENTS OF RAJPURA

Chandigarh : Punjab Local Government and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh today laid the foundation stone of a pipelined water supply project worth Rs.33.66 crore at Purana Rajpura.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ravjot Singh said that Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann led Punjab Government is committed to delivering potable water to every household in the state. He said that the project, a result of consistent efforts of Rajpura MLA Neena Mittal, will ensure clean drinking water supply to residents of the area.

Congratulating the residents of Rajpura on the launch of this long-awaited project, Dr. Ravjot Singh said, "If we still fail to provide clean drinking water to our people, we will never be able to forgive ourselves. Previous governments have long neglected this basic need."

He said that in response to the concerns raised by MLA Neena Mittal, Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann swiftly approved the Rs.33.66 crore pipeline water supply project under AMRUT 2.0, which includes the strengthening of the distribution system and laying of a 57.30 km pipeline across Old Rajpura and Rajpura Town, which will further benefit nearly 50,000 residents across 10,000 households.

Dr. Ravjot Singh said that the Aam Aadmi Party-led government is the first in Punjab to never complain of an empty treasury when it comes to public welfare. "We are actively working to ensure clean drinking water for every household in Punjab. The Chief Minister has emerged as a true guardian of the state's water resources, ensuring that not a single drop goes to waste," he said.

MLA Neena Mittal expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann and Cabinet Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh for prioritizing this vital project. "For 50 years, the people of Rajpura were denied access to clean water due to the negligence of previous governments. Today, this government has given us a historic gift," she said.

Neena Mittal added that due to outdated policies of previous governments, Rajpura—known as the Gateway to Punjab—faced many hardships. "Now, with a government that is determined to make Punjab prosperous, basic issues such as drinking water are being resolved."

Neena Mittal explained that under the first phase of the AMRUT project in Rajpura, major rising mains, distribution lines and domestic connections will be upgraded. A direct rising main (hotline) will also be installed from the water works to Old Rajpura to ensure uninterrupted clean water supply.

Punjab State Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia, ADC (Urban Development) Navreet Kaur Sekhon, SDM Avikesh Gupta, EO Avtar Chand and several local residents were present on this occasion.
