Ludhiana (Punjab) : Aspiring agripreneurs from Tarn Taran and Patiala visited the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today to seek expert advice on scaling up their food-based ventures.
The visit was hosted by the School of Business Studies in collaboration with the National Initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovations – Technology Business Incubator (NIDHI-TBI), supported by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
The Tarn Taran group, comprising Mr. Narbir Singh, Mr. Gurpreet Singh, and Mr. Lovepreet Singh from village Sugga, Bhikhiwind, is engaged in wheat flour, turmeric, mustard oil, and spice processing.
Meanwhile, Ms. Komal and Ms. Gurinder Kaur from Patiala are developing innovative products such as multigrain and moringa samosas, chickpea and mushroom pickles, and beetroot chakli.
Each group participated in intensive two-hour expert sessions focusing on marketing strategies, startup acceleration, and sustainable packaging. Dr. Ramandeep Singh, Principal Investigator of NIDHI-TBI and Director of the School of Business Studies, emphasized branding, transparency in labeling, and market visibility as essential pillars for growth and consumer trust in agribusiness.
The Tarn Taran entrepreneurs were introduced to PAU’s Kisan Club and guided to the university's Agro Processing Centre and Skill Development Centre for technical training and infrastructure upgrades.
The Patiala-based women entrepreneurs were introduced to high-nutrition PAU wheat varieties, such as PBW 1 Chapatti, and received support in developing brand identities for their food products.
Further, Mr. Gurinder Singh (CEO) and Mr. Sameer Gautam (Business Manager) from NIDHI-TBI facilitated digital onboarding of the entrepreneurs into PAU’s formal incubation program. They also discussed innovative marketing models that can help scale their ventures sustainably.
PAU’s School of Business Studies and NIDHI-TBI remain committed to empowering rural entrepreneurs—particularly youth and women—by promoting innovation-driven agribusiness that aligns with Punjab’s evolving agricultural landscape.
