TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT TO CLEAR ALL PENDING CITIZEN-CENTRIC SERVICES BEYOND THE STIPULATED TIMELINES BY APRIL 25: HARPAL SINGH CHEEMA

Chandigarh : In line with the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government’s top priority of timely and hassle-free delivery of citizen-centric services, the Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema on Wednesday announced that following the Revenue Department, the Transport Department has been directed to clear all pending citizen-centric services beyond the stipulated timelines on a campaign basis by April 25, 2025.

Addressing a press conference here at Punjab Bhawan, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has directed the concerned officers of the Transport Department to address the pendency of services, including Vahan and Sarathi Services, by the specified deadline. Cheema assured that after April 25, all services would be delivered within the stipulated timelines.

Highlighting the initiatives undertaken by the Transport Department to ensure efficient service delivery, the Finance Minister said that 20 services were being provided through Doorstep Delivery via call center number 1076 and Sewa Kendras, allowing citizens to access services without visiting RTO offices. He announced that all citizen-centric services will be soon shifted to E-Sewa Kendras (1076), eliminating the need for physical visits to RTO offices. “A WhatsApp Chatbot will be introduced soon to facilitate faceless services, enhancing convenience and efficiency for citizens”, he added.

Underscoring the importance of accountability in ensuring the smooth delivery of services, Finance Minister said that senior officers of the Transport department including State Transport Commissioner (STC) would regularly monitor service delivery to prevent undue delays. “In case of any undue delay, the responsible government officers or employees will face strict action”, said Cheema.

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that these initiatives are focused on leveraging technology and innovative solutions to improve governance and enhance the quality of life for its citizens. He said that the government aims to set a benchmark for citizen-centric governance by prioritizing the timely delivery of services.
