Blast at Lambi Firecracker Factory Kills 5, Injures 27; Owner Identified

Sri Muktsar Sahib (Punjab) : A massive explosion rocked a firecracker factory located in the fields near the village Singhewala-Fatuhiwala in Lambi constituency of Sri Muktsar Sahib district late last night, resulting in the death of at least five workers and injuries to over two dozen others, several of whom are reported to be in critical condition.

The blast was so powerful that its sound was heard several kilometers away. The explosion caused the complete destruction of the factory building. Upon receiving the alert, senior officials including the SSP of Muktsar district reached the spot and initiated rescue operations.

DSP Jaspal Singh and police from Killi Wali station also arrived and started the investigation. Rescue teams, with help from volunteers and machinery, are clearing the debris amid suspicions that some individuals may still be trapped underneath

Initial reports indicate that the explosion occurred in the firecracker unit after midnight.

Sources say the factory is allegedly linked to a political figure from the area, and the manufacturing was being overseen by a person from Uttar Pradesh, who is now absconding.Police have recovered some firecrackers and related material from the site, which will be further examined.
