Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Deepke on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Delhi Police, accusing them of subjecting him and his family to intense "mental torture" during his recent detention. Deepke claimed that following his detention on October 10 ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar, police authorities kept his whereabouts completely hidden from his family and denied him access to legal representation. Speaking to reporters in Hingoli district's Santuk Pimpri village, where he arrived following the demise of his grandmother two days prior, Deepke detailed that he was intercepted and detained right as he stepped off a flight in Delhi. He alleged that law enforcement officers failed to inform his parents or lawyers about his detention status and barred him from looking up his cousin’s phone number to coordinate family matters. Addressing counter-claims by the police—who maintained they had compassionately informed him of his grandmother's passing and offered to send him to the village for the last rites—Deepke dismissed the assertions as a "drama" orchestrated in front of cameras. "If they had already informed me, why did they approach me at 3:30 AM asking me to sign arrest documents?" he questioned, adding that police refused to let him access contacts on his phone to speak with relatives already with his grandmother. Deepke further accused the police of circulating an "edited video" to mislead the public, challenging authorities to release unedited footage that would expose how his fundamental rights, including consulting a lawyer, were violated. He maintained that police pressured him to sign a declaration promising not to disrupt public order, which he refused to do without legal counsel present. Reasserting his resolve, the CJP chief declared that his political struggle against the administration would persist until "dictatorship comes to an end."
