Fraud Allegations Against Portage College in Canada

Allegations of fraud involving nearly 1,500 Punjabi students have emerged at Portage College in Calgary, Canada. The controversy deepened after links surfaced connecting the case to an immigration agent based in Jalandhar. Students and their families claim that the college administration has stopped responding to them, leaving their future in jeopardy. On Monday, distressed students and their families gathered at the office of Pyramid E-Services near Jalandhar bus stand, staging a protest. They expressed anger and concern over the money they had invested and the uncertainty surrounding their education. A woman from Gurdaspur revealed that two years ago, her daughter’s study visa for Canada was arranged through an agent associated with Pyramid E-Services. She was subsequently admitted to Portage College in Calgary. According to her, the agent provided an offer letter within a single day. The family spent nearly ₹32 lakh on tuition and other expenses. However, they now allege that the education has not yielded the expected benefits. The woman claimed her daughter is struggling in Canada and may have to spend another two years at a different college to complete her studies. Police sources indicated that agents allegedly charged up to ₹7 lakh in advance under the pretext of clearing visa files. Even students whose visa applications had already been rejected were reportedly asked to pay. Allegations also include the preparation of fake loan letters, forged bank statements, and counterfeit seals. Reports suggest that some fraudulent companies were involved in the scheme as well. Lakhbir Singh, in-charge of the bus stand police post, stated that no formal written complaint has been filed so far. He added that if a complaint is received, an investigation will be conducted and further legal action will be taken based on verified facts.
