Ludhiana West Constituency Sealed Off to Outsiders After June 17

Ludhiana (Punjab) : In a bid to ensure free, fair, and transparent by-elections in the Ludhiana West Assembly constituency, district, and election officials have announced strict enforcement measures beginning Thursday, June 17, 6:00 PM, the official end of the campaign period.

Announcing the measures, General Observer Rajeev Kumar (IAS), Police Observer Surinder Pal (IPS), Expenditure Observer Indiana Ashok Kumar (IRS), and District Election Officer Himanshu Jain declared that no person who is not a registered voter of Ludhiana West, nor directly involved in the election process, may stay within the constituency during the 48-hour “silence period” before voting, which takes place on June 19.

To prevent any outside interference, lodging of non-residents in hotels, guest houses, hostels, PGs, inns, and similar establishments within the constituency is strictly prohibited.

Inspection teams led by the police, returning officer, and officials from food, civil supplies, and taxation departments will be conducting checks at accommodations, community halls, and event venues to ensure compliance. Border checkpoints will also monitor the movement of vehicles into the area.

“All political parties, candidates, and their agents have been duly informed of these orders,” said DEO Himanshu Jain, adding that public announcements will be made throughout the constituency to inform residents and visitors.

Further tightening the vigil, Flying Squad Teams (FSTs), Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs), and Excise Department officials have been directed to increase vigilance, especially during the last 72 hours before polling.

High-tech checkposts will be operational to monitor movement, and all vehicles—private or commercial—will be inspected thoroughly.

Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be transported under strict supervision by CAPF personnel in GPS-enabled vehicles, accompanied by police escorts. On the day of polling, 66 micro-observers will be deployed to monitor voting procedures and ensure smooth conduct.

The Election Commission of India has also enforced a ban on opinion and exit polls during the last 48 hours leading up to voting day.

District officials urged voters to participate freely and responsibly in the electoral process, assuring that all necessary arrangements are in place to prevent malpractices and maintain order.
