Heatwave Likely in Southern Punjab, Rain Forecast from June 11
Following recent rainfall across Punjab, temperatures have started rising once again, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a heatwave alert for several parts of the state. A yellow alert has been issued for Tuesday, June 9, by the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh, warning of heatwave conditions in eight districts of Punjab. According to the IMD, dry weather is expected to prevail during this period. Heatwave conditions are likely to affect districts located along the Rajasthan border, including Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala and Sangrur. In addition, strong winds with speeds of up to 44 kmph are expected in Pathankot. The weather department has forecast that these conditions are likely to continue on June 10 as well. However, a change in weather is expected to begin from June 11. Rainfall, thunderstorms and hailstorms are likely in several areas on June 11, 13 and 14. According to Surender Pal, Director of the Meteorological Department, heatwave conditions may persist in some parts of Punjab until June 11. Rain is also expected in various regions of the state on June 12. During this period, some areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds blowing at speeds of 50 to 60 kmph. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continues to advance across the country and has already reached several new regions. The monsoon is expected to enter Punjab around June 30. It is likely to reach Ludhiana and Jalandhar around July 5, while northern districts such as Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Pathankot are expected to receive monsoon rains around July 8.
