Heavy Rain Brings Gurugram to a Standstill, Roads Submerged Under 3–4 Feet of Water

Heavy rainfall across the Delhi-NCR region on Monday caused severe waterlogging in several parts of Gurugram, disrupting normal life and bringing traffic movement to a standstill at multiple locations. Gurugram witnessed extensive waterlogging following the rain, with several roads experiencing major traffic congestion. A number of school buses were also stranded in waterlogged areas while children were inside. Some students reportedly stepped out of the buses and made their way through the water, while others remained inside the vehicles. According to the information available, Gurugram received 75 mm of rainfall between 10 am and 5 pm. Water accumulated to depths of around 3 to 4 feet at several major locations, including Rajiv Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Jail Chowk, IFFCO Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, NH-48, Shankar Chowk, Kherki Daula Toll and Sohna Road. At some locations, cars were seen floating in the accumulated water. Rajiv Chowk remained heavily congested from 11 am to 8 pm. School buses and ambulances were among the vehicles caught in the prolonged traffic jam. A family from Madhya Pradesh transporting a deceased person's body was also stranded in the congestion. 

In view of the situation, the Gurugram district administration has issued a work-from-home advisory for private companies for August 25. The advisory has been issued keeping in mind the safety of students and staff, as well as the possibility of further traffic congestion due to waterlogging. Schools will also conduct online classes on August 25. The administration cited concerns over waterlogging, traffic disruption and the safety of students and staff as the reasons behind the advisory.
