Indian Stock Market Rises on Monday; FMCG, Pharma and Auto Stocks Lead Gains

Indian equity markets witnessed strong buying activity on Monday, the first trading session of the week, with the benchmark Sensex gaining more than 400 points during intraday trading. Buying was visible across several sectors, particularly FMCG, pharmaceuticals, real estate, healthcare and automobiles.
The BSE Sensex opened around 240 points higher at 74,535. At the time of reporting, the index was trading at 74,721.69, up 426.73 points or 0.57%.
Of the 30 Sensex constituents, 26 stocks were trading higher while four were in the red. Except for the IT sector, buying interest was visible across most major sectors.
UltraTech Cement, Asian Paints Among Top Gainers
Among the Sensex companies, UltraTech Cement was trading more than 3.5% higher. Shares of Asian Paints, Sun Pharma and IndiGo also gained more than 2%.
HCL Technologies, Trent, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, NTPC and Kotak Mahindra Bank were trading between 1% and 2% higher.
On the other hand, shares of Infosys, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel and Power Grid were trading in negative territory at the time of reporting.
The broader market showed a mixed trend, with investors focusing on selected sectors amid the overall rise in benchmark indices.
Nifty Also Trades in Positive Territory
The NSE Nifty 50 index opened 16 points lower at 23,330. However, it later recovered and was trading at 23,388.15, up 41.75 points or 0.18% at the time of reporting.
Buying activity was particularly visible in IT, pharmaceutical and FMCG stocks.
NSE IPO Enters Final Day
The initial public offering of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) entered its final day of bidding on September 21. At the stage cited in the supplied market update, the issue had received 1.04 times subscription after two days of bidding.
The NSE IPO has a price band of ₹1,700 to ₹1,785 per share, while the lot size is eight shares. At the upper end of the price band, a retail investor applying for one lot would need a minimum investment of ₹14,280. These issue details are also reflected in the NSE's official issue information.
How the Market Performed Last Week
The domestic equity market had witnessed largely subdued trading on Friday, September 18. According to the supplied market update, the Sensex closed 20 points lower at 74,295, while the Nifty gained 76 points to finish at 23,346.
The latest trading session therefore began with buying interest in several sectors, with the Sensex and Nifty both moving higher during intraday trade.
