Training Aircraft Crashes Near Mission in Canada, Pilot Killed

A training aircraft crashed near the city of Mission in Canada late Thursday night, killing the pilot who was the only person on board. The small aircraft was destroyed in the crash. According to Mission police, the incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. Local residents reported hearing an extremely loud sound, described as being similar to an explosion. They then saw what appeared to be a ball of fire falling from the sky and alerted the police. Police officers and firefighters were dispatched to the scene following the reports. When they arrived, they found the wreckage of a small aircraft at the site. Firefighters searched through the debris and found the pilot’s body inside the wreckage. Police said the pilot had been alone in the aircraft and had been flying as part of night-flight training. However, authorities have not disclosed which training centre the aircraft had departed from or where it was scheduled to land. An investigation into the crash is now underway. Police are assisting the Transportation Safety Board with the investigation to determine what caused the accident and what circumstances may have led to the pilot being unable to deal with the situation.
