Ferozepur DC visits Balewala head; urges farmers to opt for canal water irrigation

Ferozepur (Punjab) : In a bid to enhance irrigation practices and ensure infrastructure safety, Deepshikha, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ferozepur conducted an inspection of the Balewala Head as part of a 15-day departmental review marathon. DC sought detailed information from officials of the Water Resources Department about the district's irrigation network. Present at the site were Balwinder Komboj, Executive Engineer, Fazilka Canal and Groundwater Division, Ferozepur, and Rajinder Pal Goel, Sub-Divisional Officer, Head Works Sub-Division, Ferozepur. During the visit, the DC instructed the Water Resources Department to install protective railings along major feeder canals and place safety signs and reflectors to prevent accidents during the foggy season. The directives were also issued to clean the feeder channel lines and prioritize the maintenance and beautification of the headworks.DC emphasized the need to encourage farmers to rely more on canal water for irrigation instead of groundwater. Farmers were urged to adopt sustainable irrigation practices to conserve groundwater resources. Balwinder Komboj, XEN provided insights into the historical significance of Balewala Head, built in 1923, and shared plans for the upcoming reconstruction of the Ferozepur Canal. He also highlighted a new project for the Malwa Feeder, which is set to commence soon under departmental initiatives.
