Canada's Immigration Department has warned people living abroad against falling victim to agents promising Canadian visas under the country's latest immigration proposals. The department has clarified that the proposed plan to grant permanent residency to 2 lakh people will benefit only certain temporary residents already living in Canada.
A department spokesperson explained that the proposal is intended for people who are currently in Canada on a temporary basis but have been unable to obtain permanent residency due to circumstances such as non-renewal of their work permits or other legal hurdles.
The spokesperson said applications from eligible candidates would undergo detailed scrutiny before any decisions are made. No provision has been included in the proposal to bring new workers or applicants from overseas under this 2 lakh quota.
Warning Against Fake Visa Promises
The department expressed concern over reports that some immigration agents, particularly in India, had started approaching prospective applicants with misleading claims that Canadian visas had reopened following the budget announcement.
The spokesperson clarified that the budget proposal does not announce any general reopening of Canadian visas for people living abroad. People seeking to move to Canada have been advised not to pay money to agents making such promises.
Separate 4.22 Lakh Quota for Specific Categories
The spokesperson also clarified that the separate quota of 4.22 lakh is reserved for specific categories of applicants.
These include highly skilled professionals with advanced technical qualifications, individuals making financial investments, people willing to spend 10 years in remote locations, and those associated with large businesses.
Only applicants falling within these specified categories will be eligible to submit applications under the provision.
Applicants Advised to Check Official Immigration Rules
The Immigration Department has urged people outside Canada who wish to move to the country to exercise caution before engaging with agents or making financial commitments.
Prospective applicants have been advised to carefully review Canada's immigration policies and eligibility requirements on the official government website before taking any further steps.
The department's clarification aims to prevent people from losing money to fraudulent agents exploiting the recent budget announcement and creating false expectations about Canadian immigration opportunities.
