CJI Surya Kant Flags Off Women’s Day Walkathon in Chandigarh to Promote Awareness on Women’s Rights

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Surya Kant, the Supreme Court of India Chief Justice of India (CJI), flagged off a walkathon in Chandigarh on Sunday to raise awareness about women’s rights. Justice Kant also personally participated in the “Women’s Day Walkathon,” which began at the police post near Sukhna Lake and continued for approximately 2.5 kilometres, concluding at the Open Hand Monument. Speaking to journalists after the event, Justice Kant said that young lawyers and judges took part enthusiastically in the walkathon. He noted that the primary aim of the event was to spread awareness among people about the importance of protecting and promoting women’s rights. The walkathon, along with a plantation drive, was organised as part of the India International Disputes Week. The programme was attended by Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, among other participants. Earlier on Saturday evening, Justice Kant also inaugurated the Chandigarh International Arbitration Centre and delivered a keynote address outlining India’s vision for the future of cross-border dispute resolution services.
