India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to participate in the upcoming meeting of defence ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, scheduled for April 27–28, 2026. In a statement shared on social media platform X, Singh said he looks forward to engaging in discussions on pressing global security challenges and reiterating India’s commitment to global peace. He emphasized that India will present its consistent stance of “zero tolerance” towards terrorism and extremism during the meeting. The Defence Minister noted that, alongside addressing multilateral concerns, he is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts from SCO member nations. He will also interact with the Indian community in Bishkek during his visit. The SCO Defence Ministers’ meeting serves as a key multilateral platform where member countries deliberate on regional security issues, counter-terrorism strategies, and military cooperation. The 2026 edition in Bishkek is expected to focus on evolving security challenges in the Eurasian region and strengthening collective responses to instability and radicalisation. India has consistently used the SCO platform to underline the importance of coordinated global action against terrorism. In previous meetings, Singh has stressed the need for confidence-building measures, regional stability, and firm action against radicalisation, reaffirming India’s vision of a peaceful and secure neighbourhood. During his two-day visit, Singh is also expected to explore ways to enhance defence cooperation, deepen strategic engagement, and expand security partnerships with participating SCO nations.
