At least four miners lost their lives and five others sustained injuries following a gas explosion in a coal mine in Pakistan's southwestern province of Balochistan, according to official sources. The incident occurred on Sunday in the Harnai district of Balochistan after a dangerous accumulation of gas triggered a blast inside the mine. Following the explosion, rescue teams from the Pakistan Army swiftly arrived at the site to launch relief operations. Emergency personnel recovered the bodies of four deceased workers and successfully rescued the five injured miners. Official sources stated that the injured workers have been transferred to the provincial capital of Quetta for further medical treatment. This tragedy highlights a recurring hazard in the region's mining sector. Earlier in August, three coal miners—including two Afghan nationals—died after inhaling toxic methane gas while working inside a coal mine in the Duki district of Balochistan. Local media and reports from the Pakistani daily Dawn indicated that the workers lost consciousness after toxic gas accumulated in the shaft. Although fellow workers promptly notified authorities and the Department of Mines and Minerals launched a rescue operation, responders found all three miners dead inside. Coal mining operations in Balochistan have witnessed several major casualties in recent months due to gas buildup. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a massive methane explosion occurred in early July in a coal mine located in the Soranj area of Balochistan. That explosion caused a significant portion of the mine to collapse, trapping workers under the debris. As reported by The Express Tribune, 41 miners were working inside when the collapse occurred, resulting in 34 fatalities.
