Government school teachers in Haryana who have not yet cleared the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) face strict regulatory measures following new directives from the Directorate of School Education. Acting in compliance with Supreme Court orders, the department has issued comprehensive instructions enforcing mandatory eligibility standards for existing teaching staff across the state. Under the newly issued directives, passing the HTET has been rendered compulsory for all government teachers who have more than five years of service remaining prior to their retirement date, calculated as of September 1, 2025. Teachers failing to clear the qualification test within the stipulated timeframe risk severe administrative actions, including potential termination of service or compulsory retirement. The guidelines offer conditional relief for senior faculty nearing the end of their tenure. Teachers who have less than five years remaining before retirement as of September 1, 2025, and have not cleared the test, are permitted to remain in service until reaching superannuation without clearing the HTET. However, the directive clarifies that such personnel will not be eligible for career advancement or promotions unless they successfully clear the HTET in their respective subjects. To facilitate compliance and provide adequate opportunities for educators to clear the examination, the Directorate of School Education has instructed the Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH), Bhiwani, to conduct the HTET examination twice a year moving forward.
