In a major crackdown against illicit drug networks, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested six drug peddlers across Anantnag district over a 24-hour period ending Monday. Officials confirmed that quantities of charas (cannabis) were recovered during multiple targeted operations conducted across various parts of the district. Law enforcement authorities have registered six separate First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the seizures and launched detailed investigations. According to police details, a team from the Janglatmandi police post intercepted Ashiq Hussain Dar, a resident of Chichiri Pora, at a checkpoint in Kha Bazaar and recovered approximately 7 grams of charas from his possession. In a parallel operation, Uttersoo police arrested Arshad Ahmad Bhat of Karad at Kantigund, seizing 10 grams of a charas-like substance; a case under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act (FIR No. 103/2026) was registered against him. Meanwhile, Bijbehara police apprehended Mohammad Shafi Wani, a resident of Batengoo, near Gund Mohalla in Uranhall with roughly 15 grams of charas, while another team arrested Aamir Majid Lone of Jablipora near Dara Shikoh Park with 14 grams of cannabis. Additionally, the Sangam police post nabbed two individuals in separate incidents, recovering 7.10 grams of charas from Mudasir Ahmad Dar of Poshbagh, Baramulla, and 6.05 grams from Imtiyaz Ahmad Gojree of Kansipora, Baramulla, leading to two distinct FIRs (No. 294/2026 and 296/2026). The latest arrests follow a similar operation on Sunday when 10 drug peddlers were apprehended in Anantnag under the NDPS Act with charas, powder, and suspected heroin. Security forces reiterated that anti-narcotics drives will continue aggressively across the Union Territory to disrupt cross-border smuggling networks whose proceeds are frequently funneled into sustaining local terrorism.
