In a spectacular display of batting and bowling, India secured a commanding victory over Zimbabwe by 72 runs in the eighth Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup, held at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday. Winning the toss, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza elected to bowl first, putting India in a strong position to set a challenging total. India, batting first, amassed 256 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in their 20 overs, setting Zimbabwe a target of 257. This score is the second-highest in T20 World Cup history, just behind Sri Lanka’s 260 against Kenya in 2007. India’s innings were bolstered by Abhishek Sharma, who scored 55 runs, and Hardik Pandya, who remained unbeaten on 50. Tilak Varma also contributed with a crucial unbeaten 44 runs, helping India post a formidable total. Chasing 257, Zimbabwe struggled to maintain the required run rate and lost wickets at regular intervals. The visitors managed only 184 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs, falling short by 72 runs. India’s bowling attack was led by Arshdeep Singh, who claimed 3 key wickets, effectively disrupting Zimbabwe’s batting momentum. The disciplined bowling, combined with strategic field placements, ensured that India dominated throughout the match. This victory strengthens India’s position in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 and highlights their balanced performance across both batting and bowling departments.
