Pakistan has extended the ban on Indian aircraft using its airspace until May 24, 2026, further prolonging restrictions amid ongoing regional tensions. The decision was announced on Tuesday through a fresh notice issued by the aviation authorities. According to the latest notification released by the Pakistan Airports Authority, no Indian commercial or military aircraft will be permitted to enter Pakistani airspace until the morning of May 24, 2026. The restriction has been in place since April 24, 2025, following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The airspace closure was initially imposed after the deadly Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives. In response to the incident, both countries shut their airspace to each other’s aircraft, escalating diplomatic and security strains. The prolonged ban has significantly impacted Indian airlines, forcing them to take longer and more expensive routes for international travel. The situation has now persisted for nearly a year, adding operational challenges for carriers. Global developments have also contributed to the tense environment. Strong warnings against terrorism by Donald Trump, along with heightened security measures taken by the Indian government, have added to the strain in bilateral relations. India has also indicated that it may continue restrictions on Pakistani aircraft. Similar airspace closures have been witnessed in the past during major conflicts, including the Kargil War and the Pulwama attack crisis. Meanwhile, ongoing geopolitical tensions in regions such as Iran and Lebanon have prompted increased global vigilance regarding aviation security.
