Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa Raises Questions Over LPU Incident and Punjab Police Response

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Monday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of deliberately creating unrest and disorder at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab. He alleged that the developments at the university were aimed at diverting national attention from a controversy involving AAP leader Manish Sisodia and party functionary Gayatri Bishnoi.
Addressing the media, Sirsa claimed that between 400 and 500 people had been specifically sent from Delhi to the university campus to create disturbances and disrupt the academic environment. He further alleged that several of those individuals had criminal backgrounds and were sent to the campus with weapons.
The Delhi minister also questioned the handling of the situation by the Punjab Police. Raising concerns over security on the university campus, he asked why such a sensitive situation was allowed to continue for three days. He further alleged that the police had failed to issue a timely clarification regarding allegations related to a rape case at the university.
Sirsa said that female students studying at the university were living in fear. Referring to videos circulating publicly, he claimed that some students had stated they were being compelled to call their parents and were living under a sense of insecurity.
According to Sirsa, the entire sequence of events was part of a planned attempt to change media focus and shift attention away from the Gayatri Bishnoi controversy. Reiterating the allegations on social media platform X, he claimed that Bishnoi had been residing with Manish Sisodia in a government residence and alleged that the LPU incident was being used to overshadow the issue.
Describing the situation as an “attack on Gen-Z,” Sirsa said that if young people were forced to live in fear, questions would arise about the development and welfare of the younger generation. He also called on AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal to respond to the concerns he had raised.
Sirsa tagged the BJP Punjab unit in his social media post while repeating his allegations regarding the incident and the alleged attempt to shift public attention from the controversy.
The statements have added a political dimension to the ongoing debate surrounding the developments at Lovely Professional University, with Sirsa questioning both the role of AAP and the response of the Punjab Police.
