Brantford-Brant South Seat Vacant After Brock’s Departure

Conservative MP Larry Brock has formally resigned from the House of Commons, leaving the Brantford-Brant South parliamentary seat vacant. His departure marks the sixth exit from Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative caucus in the past year.
Brock, who served nearly five years as a Member of Parliament, announced last month that he intended to step down. His parliamentary term officially ended on September 18. Following his resignation, Brock will return to his previous role at the Crown Prosecutor’s Office in Brantford.
The resignation triggers a by-election in the Ontario riding, which will be held in the coming months. Elections Canada has also confirmed that five other vacant parliamentary seats across the country will require by-elections.
Brock’s exit adds to a series of departures from Poilievre’s caucus. Four MPs have crossed over to join the Liberal government, while Richard Martel was appointed to the Senate earlier this summer.
Poilievre is scheduled to hold a rally in Brantford this weekend, with political observers noting that Brock’s resignation is likely to intensify attention on the upcoming by-election in the riding.
