Baltej Pannu Vows Relentless War on Drugs

Faridkot : The Punjab Government, under the leadership of the Aam Aadmi Party, is waging a relentless war against drugs across the state. Major actions have been taken against drug traffickers, breaking the supply chain networks throughout Punjab. At the same time, comprehensive efforts are being made for the treatment and rehabilitation of drug victims, aiming to reintegrate them into the mainstream of society.

This was stated by S. Baltej Singh Pannu, State Convenor of the Nasha mukti Morcha , during his visit to the de-addiction and rehabilitation centre at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot. He was accompanied by Sukhjeet Singh Dhillwan, Malwa Zone In-charge;  Gurtej Singh Khosa, President AAP Faridkot; Sukhwant Singh Pakka, District President AAP Youth Wing; Babbu Sekhon and Gurtej Singh Jaito, among others.

Speaking to the media, Baltej Pannu emphasized that the Punjab Government is fully committed to eliminating drugs from the state and the war against drugs will continue until complete eradication is achieved. He said that on the sacred land of the Gurus and saints, there is no place for intoxicants—only the bliss of spiritual wisdom as preached by Gurbani.

He further added that the government’s success in breaking drug networks is being matched by equally strong efforts to rehabilitate addicts. These efforts include medical treatment, counseling, yoga, sports, and other activities to re-engage affected individuals with life in a meaningful way. Furthermore, skill-based vocational training programs are being introduced to help former addicts become employable and self-reliant.

Pannu mentioned that recruitment of doctors, counseling staff, and other necessary personnel is underway. The number of beds in government-run de-addiction and rehabilitation centres has also been doubled and even tripled to accommodate the growing need following the disruption of drug supply networks.

He praised the efforts of the district-level Drug-Free Front teams and said they are receiving full support from the Punjab Government, as well as from the civil and police administration and the health department. He assured that he and his team will continue regular inspections of de-addiction and rehabilitation centres and will ensure that facilities are enhanced as needed.

Pannu made a heartfelt appeal to all sections of society to support the Punjab Government and district authorities in their mission to eliminate drugs from the state.

Following this, S. Baltej Singh Pannu and his team toured the Faridkot De-addiction Centre, interacted with the patients, and reviewed the facilities being provided to them under the government’s initiatives.
