Iran Vows to Continue War Until Complete Victory, Rejects Talks with US

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump to discuss the ongoing crisis in West Asia. Following the discussion, India reiterated its support for immediate restoration of peace and de-escalation in the region. The conversation between the two leaders focused on ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and secure for maritime traffic. They also emphasized the need for sustained efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region. The call came a day after the US President gave Iran a five-day deadline to reopen the crucial waterway and briefed Modi on the latest developments. Prime Minister Modi later stated on social media that both leaders agreed to remain in touch regarding the evolving situation. Meanwhile, Iran’s military and political leadership rejected statements made by the US President regarding possible negotiations. The spokesperson of Iran’s top military command, Khatam-al Anbiya, Major General Ali Abdullahi Alizabadi, said that Iranian forces would continue fighting until achieving complete victory. His remarks indicated that Iran is not willing to engage in any form of dialogue with the United States at this stage. Amid the rapidly changing situation in West Asia, Prime Minister Modi urged citizens to remain prepared for any eventuality. He acknowledged that the crisis could have significant implications and stressed the importance of readiness. The government also announced the formation of seven empowered groups to address potential impacts of the conflict. These groups will formulate strategies related to fuel, fertilizers, gas supply, supply chains, and inflation. The Prime Minister appealed to states to work closely with the Centre under a “Team India” approach. To discuss the situation further, the government has convened an all-party meeting at 5 pm on Wednesday, to be chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. However, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will not attend due to a pre-scheduled programme in Kerala. In his statement in the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister highlighted the serious consequences of the conflict and recalled India’s response during the COVID-19 pandemic, where expert-led groups played a crucial role. He also warned against hoarding and black marketing, urging state governments to take strict action. The Prime Minister assured that the safety and livelihood of nearly one crore Indians residing in Gulf countries remain a top priority for the government.
