Sangrur: Blast Rocks Shop in Vegetable Market, Investigation Underway

A powerful explosion occurred at a fireworks shop in Sangrur's vegetable market late on Wednesday night, blowing off the shop's roof and triggering a massive fire. The flames spread rapidly, prompting an emergency response from the fire department. Fire brigade teams worked for several hours before successfully bringing the blaze under control. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. According to local residents and the shop owner, there were no fireworks stored inside the shop at the time of the incident. They claimed that the explosion and subsequent fire were caused by sparking from nearby electricity poles. The shop owner and residents also levelled serious allegations against the Municipal Council. They alleged that authorities had previously attempted to remove the shop because of a nearby garbage dumping site. They further claimed that a Municipal Council vehicle collided with the shop on the night of the incident, leading to sparking from the electricity poles, which allegedly triggered the fire. However, these allegations have not been officially confirmed. Municipal Council officials could not be contacted for their response. A clearer picture of the incident is expected only after the authorities present their version. The administration has initiated an investigation into the matter and is examining the exact cause of the explosion and the fire.
