Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev secured a spot in the Indian Wells final on Monday by defeating world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6 (3). This victory marked Alcaraz’s first loss of the year, ending his 16-match winning streak that included titles at the Australian Open and Qatar Open. Medvedev, ranked 11th, will now face Italy’s second-ranked Jannik Sinner in the final. Sinner advanced after a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Alexander Zverev, delivering an impressive performance in just 1 hour and 23 minutes. The fourth-ranked Zverev, despite winning the first eight points on his serve, was broken in the fifth and seventh games, allowing Sinner to take the opening set. Sinner now leads their head-to-head series against Zverev 7-4. This win was particularly significant for Medvedev, who had lost his previous four encounters against Alcaraz, including the 2024 Indian Wells final and the 2023 US Open semifinal. His victory over Alcaraz not only halted the Spaniard’s unbeaten run but also confirmed a Medvedev-Sinner final. Notably, neither Medvedev nor Sinner has dropped a set in the tournament so far. Sinner has also won all three of his previous matches against Medvedev, including a quarterfinal victory at the 2024 US Open. The final promises to be a high-stakes showdown between two of the sport’s top talents.
