Firozpur Central Jail Under Scanner After Undertrial Posts Instagram Video from Inside Prison

A fresh case raising concerns over security arrangements at Firozpur Central Jail has come to light after an undertrial allegedly recorded a video from inside the prison and uploaded it on Instagram. Following the video's circulation on social media, the jail administration launched an immediate search operation and recovered a mobile phone along with a SIM card. According to police, SI Sukhdev Singh of City Police Station, Firozpur, said that Assistant Superintendent of Central Jail Balwinder Singh submitted a written complaint regarding the incident. The complaint stated that on July 10, undertrial Gurinder Singh, son of Surinder Singh and a resident of Padde Bet village under Dhilwan Police Station in Kapurthala district, recorded a video from inside the jail premises and shared it through his Instagram account. After the video surfaced online, jail officials conducted a detailed personal search of the undertrial. However, no mobile phone or any other prohibited item was recovered during the initial search. During subsequent questioning by the jail authorities, the undertrial admitted that he had recorded the video. He further disclosed that the footage had been filmed a few days earlier while he was lodged in the 'Jadid Chukkian' section of the jail. Acting on the information provided by the undertrial, officials searched the furnaces located outside Barrack No. 11. During the search, they recovered one concealed mobile phone and a SIM card. Police officials said that a case has been registered against undertrial Gurinder Singh under the Prisons Act for allegedly violating jail regulations. Further investigation is underway to determine how the mobile phone was brought inside the prison and whether any other individuals were involved.
