India’s Asian Games Campaign Ends With 85 Medals; PM Modi Hails Players’ Determination

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the Indian contingent for its performance at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, praising the athletes for representing the country with determination, passion and sporting spirit.
India finished the Games with 85 medals, including 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze, securing fourth place in the overall medal standings.
India’s medal tally was 21 lower than its total at the previous Asian Games, held in China in 2023.
As the Asian Games concluded, Prime Minister Modi posted a message on X congratulating every member of the Indian contingent.
“As the Asian Games 2026 conclude, I congratulate every member of the Indian contingent who represented our nation with determination, passion and outstanding sporting spirit,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister also congratulated all the medal winners, saying their performances had brought immense happiness to the entire country.
Modi said he hoped the achievements at the Games would inspire even greater accomplishments in the coming years and contribute to strengthening sports at the grassroots level across the country.
Nagoya Hosts Grand Closing Ceremony
The Asian Games featured athletes from 45 countries across Asia and continued for more than two weeks. More than 350 records were set during the Games, including at least 50 world records.
The sporting event concluded with a grand closing ceremony at the Mizuho Park Athletics Stadium in Nagoya, marking the end of more than two weeks of competition.
