Yamunanagar Protest: Congress OBC Wing Announces 100-Day Campaign for Caste Census

The Haryana Congress OBC Wing staged a protest in Yamunanagar demanding a caste-based census and later submitted a memorandum addressed to the President to the Deputy Commissioner.
The protest was led by Rajya Sabha MP Karamvir Boudh and MLA Chander Prakash. A large number of Congress workers gathered near the Mini Secretariat under the leadership of Chander Prakash before submitting the memorandum.
Speaking during the protest, MLA Chander Prakash said that a special 100-day campaign would be conducted to press for a caste-based census. He said the campaign would include foot marches, sit-ins, protests, hunger strikes and rallies to create awareness among people.
According to Chander Prakash, the campaign would also seek to put pressure on the BJP government to conduct a caste-based census in a transparent and scientific manner.
Targeting the BJP, Rajya Sabha MP Karamvir Boudh alleged that going back on promises was an old practice of the party. He also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes hollow claims about the welfare of the OBC community.
Boudh further alleged that the BJP’s policy had been to divide society, while claiming that the Congress followed a different approach.
District rural Congress president Narpal Singh Gujjar said people had understood what he described as the BJP’s divisive policies and would no longer be misled by the party.
District urban Congress president Davinder Singh alleged that the BJP gives priority to its own interests and has repeatedly attempted to divide people on the basis of caste and religion to pursue its agenda.
Senior leaders Nirmala Chauhan, former Congress candidate from Yamunanagar Raman Tyagi, Pandit Rajkumar Tyagi, Satpal Kaushik, Mohan Gujjar, Narsingh Pal, Zakir Hussain and Barkha Ram Pansara also addressed the gathering.
The Congress OBC Wing said its campaign for a caste-based census would continue through various public programmes over the next 100 days.
