Farmers’ Interests Will Be Top Priority in Every FTA, Says PM Modi

Amid the ongoing march by farmers from Punjab and Haryana towards Delhi in protest against the proposed Indo-US Trade Deal and the tense situation at the Shambhu border, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the farming community that the government remains fully committed to their welfare. He said that farmers' interests would be given the highest priority in every Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed by India. Addressing the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday morning, the Prime Minister referred to the recently concluded and upcoming Free Trade Agreements. He stated that every trade pact entered into by India would safeguard the interests of both the nation and its farmers. He also emphasized that these agreements would benefit the agriculture sector rather than cause any harm. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, quoting the Prime Minister, said that farmers' welfare has always been a key priority for the government. He added that all future FTAs would ensure the complete protection of farmers' interests while also creating opportunities for their continued growth and progress. During the meeting, the Prime Minister also addressed the ongoing student protests over the NEET-UG paper leak case. He assured that those responsible for the alleged irregularities would face the strictest possible action and reiterated that the government is treating the matter with complete seriousness.
