A landslide triggered by continuous heavy rainfall has damaged several houses in Sikkim’s Gyalshing district, officials said on Friday.
According to officials, the landslide occurred late on Thursday night and caused extensive damage in Rimbi village. Several residential structures, including government accommodations, were either destroyed or suffered major damage as a result of the incident.
Despite the significant property damage, authorities confirmed that no loss of life has been reported so far.
The landslide was caused by persistent heavy rain that has been affecting parts of the Himalayan state. The affected area witnessed substantial destruction, prompting local authorities to assess the situation and monitor any further risks arising from the unstable weather conditions.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed concern over the situation in Rimbi and emphasized that the safety and well-being of affected residents remain the government's highest priority.
The Chief Minister said he has directed the local administration to remain on high alert, closely monitor developments, and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of residents in the affected region.
Officials continue to keep watch on the area as heavy rainfall remains a concern, while efforts are underway to support residents impacted by the landslide.
