According to a social media statement released by ICE, Satveer Singh, a resident of New Jersey engaged in interstate trucking, was taken into custody on September 11. Federal authorities stated that Singh originally entered the United States legally in 2017 but violated his entry conditions by remaining in the country unlawfully for over eight years. The arrest occurred just one day after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) removed a controversial digital advertisement targeting undocumented commercial drivers. The AI-generated image shared on social media depicted a man with a brown beard alongside the caption: "Get off our roads, you don't know how to drive, Mr. Singh." The campaign faced sharp criticism from Indian-American advocacy groups, Sikh organizations, and prominent Democratic leaders—including California Governor Gavin Newsom and Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi—who condemned it as racially biased. The enforcement action comes amid intensified deportations and public arrests carried out by ICE following President Donald Trump's return to the White House in January 2025. Established under the Homeland Security Act of 2002, ICE is authorized to detain and process individuals suspected of residing in the country without valid legal authorization.
