Cylinder Stolen from Judge’s Residence in Sarabha Nagar, CCTV Captures Suspect

A gas cylinder was allegedly stolen from the residence of a judge in Ludhiana’s Sarabha Nagar area in broad daylight, with the incident later coming to light when the household staff went to prepare tea. The incident reportedly took place at the residence of JMFC Gaurav Gupta, located in one of Ludhiana’s prominent residential areas. The theft occurred on August 7, 2026. According to a complaint filed by Shankar Singh, a resident of the CRPF Colony in Dugri who works as a cook at the judge’s residence, he went to prepare tea for a tuition teacher at around 4 pm. When the gas stove failed to work, he checked outside and found that the LPG cylinder was missing. Following the discovery, the household checked the CCTV footage installed at the residence. The footage reportedly showed an unidentified man entering the house through the main gate at around 3:22 pm. The suspect was allegedly seen calmly picking up the gas cylinder, placing it on a white-coloured Activa scooter and leaving the premises. Based on Shankar Singh’s complaint, Division No. 5 Police registered a case against an unidentified person. Police are now investigating the incident and examining the CCTV footage to identify and trace the suspect. The incident has also brought attention to an earlier theft reported at another judge’s residence in Ludhiana in June. During the last week of June, a theft was reported at the residence of Judicial Magistrate Amit Bakshi in C-Block of BRS Nagar. The complaint was lodged at the Sarabha Nagar Police Station by his gunman, ASI Jaswinder Pal. The judge had left the city on leave on June 27. The following day, after receiving a phone call from the judge, Jaswinder Pal visited the residence in C-Block, BRS Nagar, where he found household belongings scattered. Suspecting a theft, he immediately informed the Sarabha Nagar Police. A bicycle worth around Rs 40,000, silver articles and cash were reported stolen from the residence. The two incidents involving judges’ residences within a short period have raised concerns over security in residential areas considered relatively secure.
