Late-Night Crash in Central Delhi Leaves Passengers Trapped Inside Bus

A serious road accident took place in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area early Wednesday when a private sleeper bus travelling from Jaipur overturned, resulting in the death of two passengers and injuries to 23 others. According to police, the incident occurred around 1 am near Hanuman Mandir. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Rohit Rajbir said that around 30 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the accident. The impact was severe, leaving several passengers trapped inside the vehicle and causing panic among those present. Following the incident, teams from the Karol Bagh police station, fire brigade, and local residents rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. A nearby JCB machine was used to lift the overturned bus and safely pull out the trapped passengers. Eyewitnesses stated that the area remains poorly lit at night and the bus was moving at a high speed, leading the driver to lose control. The bus reportedly first collided with another vehicle and roadside boards before overturning. Among the injured, 10 were admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, 12 to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, and one to Lady Hardinge Medical College. One of the deceased has been identified as Shahbaz Alam (30), a resident of Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, while the identity of the second victim, aged around 25, is yet to be confirmed. Police have detained the bus driver, Pankaj Kumar (26), a resident of Alwar in Rajasthan, who is currently undergoing treatment. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Officials stated that timely assistance from police personnel and local residents helped prevent a higher number of casualties.
