Manipuri Musician Chongtham Vikram Singh Fatally Assaulted in Delhi; Outrage Spreads in North-East Community

Outrage and grief have swept through the North-Eastern community and the music fraternity following the tragic death of 54-year-old Manipuri guitarist and music teacher, Chongtham Vikram Singh, who was fatally assaulted outside his residence in Kilokri village, near Ashram, Delhi. The victim was reportedly killed after he objected to noise and commotion outside his home. According to police reports, Singh had expressed strong objections to hooting and loud noise being made by local delivery personnel and staff members of a nearby eatery in front of his house. When he went downstairs to intervene and request them to stop, the suspects launched a physical assault, repeatedly slapping and striking him. Singh was rushed to Holy Family Hospital by his son, Yaifaba, but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The incident drew swift and severe condemnation from Manipuri youth organizations, social activists, and political leaders. Targeting the central and Delhi governments, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pawan Khera alleged that the authorities have fostered a climate of fearlessness among lawbreakers, resulting in such violent incidents on the city's streets. Delhi Police registered a murder case at the Sunlight Colony police station to initiate legal action. Police officials confirmed that, based on CCTV footage and investigative leads, all eight individuals involved in the incident, including a juvenile, have been taken into custody for questioning.
