Djokovic Clinches China Open Crown as De Minaur Withdraws Due to Injury

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic won his seventh China Open title after Australia’s Alex de Minaur was forced to retire from the final because of an injury.

De Minaur tried to continue after losing the opening set in a tiebreak. He returned to the court with his thigh strapped but was unable to continue as the pain intensified early in the second set. At the time of his retirement, Djokovic was leading 7-6 (3), 1-0.

After the match, Djokovic wished his opponent a speedy recovery and expressed sympathy over the injury.

The victory extended Djokovic’s unbeaten record at the China Open. The 39-year-old recorded his 34th consecutive win at the tournament.

The Serbian also achieved another milestone by winning a singles title for the 21st consecutive year, extending his remarkable record.

Speaking after the match, Djokovic acknowledged that physical problems had made the current year particularly challenging for him.

The China Open semifinals had also produced dramatic moments. Hubert Hurkacz was forced to withdraw because of an injury, while Daniil Medvedev was disqualified after throwing a ball into the crowd.

Jannik Sinner to Miss Remaining Matches Due to Knee Injury

Monaco: World No. 1 tennis player Jannik Sinner will miss the remaining matches of the year because of a knee injury. Sinner confirmed the decision himself through a video message.

The Italian has been out of action since July and has decided to undergo knee surgery after considering his long-term career and future fitness.

The injury could also put his world No. 1 ranking at risk. Sinner has not played a match since defeating Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final in July.
