Delhi Transport Shutdown May Affect Supply of Essential Goods and Daily Commute
Residents of Delhi and nearby regions are expected to face significant inconvenience over the next three days as two major transport organizations have announced a simultaneous strike in the national capital. The shutdown is likely to directly impact daily life and increase financial pressure on the general public. According to reports, auto-rickshaws, taxis, and heavy trucks will remain completely off the roads in Delhi from May 21 to May 23. The large-scale strike is expected to create difficulties for office-goers, school students, and passengers travelling to railway stations and airports. The disruption may also affect the supply of several goods and commodities, leading to inconvenience for consumers and possible impact on market prices. Millions of people are likely to be affected during the three-day protest. All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) has called for the strike in protest against increased fees on commercial vehicles and restrictions on the entry of BS-4 vehicles in Delhi. The organization has claimed that 126 transport associations from Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh are supporting the movement. Transport organizations have stated that the revised fees and restrictions are placing a heavy financial burden on transport operators. The strike has been organized to press the government to reconsider these measures.
