IRCTC Launches Beta Version of New Ticket Booking Website with Faster and Simpler Features

16 Jul, 2026 10:21 AM

Booking railway tickets online in India is expected to become simpler and more convenient as the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced the beta version of its redesigned ticket booking website. The new platform is designed to provide users with a faster, cleaner, and more user-friendly booking experience. The beta version went live on Wednesday at 9:00 PM and is available through the dedicated beta portal. Users can also access the beta website through a link provided on the homepage of the existing IRCTC portal. The redesign aims to address several long-standing issues reported by passengers using the current website, which was first launched in 2002. The existing platform processes approximately 1.45 million ticket bookings every day, but users have frequently complained about unnecessary CAPTCHA verification, multiple booking steps, scattered navigation, and an outdated interface. According to the information shared, many of the improvements were suggested by students from the Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT). During a visit to Rajasthan last month, the students met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and provided feedback on improving the website's usability and overall design. Their suggestions were incorporated into the redesign process. The beta version introduces several key improvements aimed at simplifying the booking process. Users will now experience a cleaner interface with fewer distractions, as unnecessary CAPTCHA checks, pop-up windows, flashing graphics, and other visual interruptions have been removed to enable quicker navigation. Another significant enhancement allows passengers to view seat availability across all travel classes on a single screen. This eliminates the need to switch between different booking options and makes comparing available seats more convenient. IRCTC has also streamlined the checkout process by reducing the number of steps required to complete a reservation, making ticket booking faster. Additionally, passengers can now save their traveller details, allowing them to make future bookings without repeatedly entering the same information. The corporation clarified that this is currently a beta release, allowing users to test the redesigned website and share feedback. The suggestions received during this phase will be used to make further improvements before the full rollout, with the objective of enhancing customer satisfaction. Alongside the website redesign, IRCTC is also working on integrating the portal with a new Passenger Reservation Engine. Since the reservation engine is being upgraded simultaneously while ensuring uninterrupted operation of the existing system, the fully functional redesigned portal is expected to become available within the next few weeks. Once the upgraded reservation engine is ready, it will be integrated with the new website. IRCTC has encouraged users to explore the beta website and submit their suggestions, which will help refine the platform before its official launch.
