Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced a visit to Punjab on October 20, during which he will meet the families of Parvinder Singh Jhota, Gulzar Singh and Bikramjit Singh, who raised their voices against the alleged drug trade in the state.
Shah is scheduled to visit Mansa, Sangrur and Gurdaspur to meet the families of the three men who spoke out against the open sale of synthetic drugs in the border state.
In a post on X, Shah accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to prevent Punjab from sinking deeper into the drug crisis. He said the situation had caused numerous families to lose their children.
“I will meet the families in Mansa, Sangrur and Gurdaspur on Tuesday, October 20, who recently lost their loved ones after raising their voices against ‘chitta’ smugglers, allegedly operating under the protection of the AAP government,” Shah said in his post.
He expressed sympathy for the families, stating that the pain of their losses could not be adequately described in words.
Shah also said that attempts to silence people speaking out against the illegal drug trade would not succeed and that the people of Punjab would respond firmly to such efforts.
Reiterating the Centre’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking, the Home Minister said the government would ensure that those involved in the trade were brought to justice.
“The Government of India will put drug smugglers behind bars and ensure that Punjab, along with the rest of the country, is freed from this illicit drug trade,” Shah said.
The visit comes amid heightened attention to drug-related concerns in Punjab and demands for action against those involved in trafficking.
