An Iranian naval warship, IRIS Lavan, has halted at Kochi port in India after experiencing a technical problem. According to official sources cited by ANI, Iran requested assistance from India on February 28 after the vessel encountered a mechanical fault. Following the request, Indian authorities granted permission for the ship to dock at Kochi on March 1. The warship subsequently arrived at the port on March 4. Reports indicate that the vessel’s 183 crew members are currently staying at facilities provided by the Indian Navy in Kochi while necessary arrangements and procedures are being carried out. The warship IRIS Lavan had recently participated in the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026 and the MILAN 2026 naval exercises held in India between February 15 and February 25. These international naval events involved participation from several countries and focused on maritime cooperation and operational coordination. Earlier, another Iranian warship, IRIS Dena, had reportedly been attacked and sunk by the United States near Sri Lanka while returning from India. According to reports, the incident resulted in the deaths of 87 Iranian naval personnel. Authorities have not released further details about the repair work or the duration of the ship’s stay at Kochi port.
