Congress Effigy-Burning Protest Causes Traffic Jam, Troubles Schoolchildren in Jagraon

An effigy-burning protest organised by the Congress party in Jagraon caused traffic disruption and left several schoolchildren stranded in buses and vans as the demonstration coincided with school dispersal time.
Congress workers had gathered at Langian Wala Bagh following a meeting of party members from different blocks. After the meeting, party workers moved onto the road to burn an effigy. At around the same time, schools in the area were letting students out, resulting in a large number of school buses, vans and other vehicles entering the road.
The preparations for the effigy burning and the subsequent burning reportedly took more than 20 minutes. During this period, a long traffic jam developed, with several school vehicles becoming stuck on the road. A large number of the affected vehicles were reportedly associated with DAV School, which is located nearby.
The hot weather added to the difficulties faced by the children waiting in the vehicles. According to the report, parents, van drivers and other commuters appealed to the protesters to clear the passage and allow the vehicles to move. However, traffic movement was restored only some time after the effigy had been burnt.
Protest Organised Against Election Commissioner
The demonstration was held outside Langian Wala Bagh under the leadership of Congress co-in-charge Ravinder Dalvi. Party office-bearers and workers had gathered to burn an effigy of the Election Commissioner.
Following the traffic disruption, Hardeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar and others called for clear rules governing such protests on public roads and urged that the regulations be strictly enforced.
The incident highlighted the difficulties that can arise when road protests coincide with school dispersal and peak traffic hours, particularly in areas where educational institutions are located close to busy roads.
