India Summons Iranian Envoy After Indian National Killed in Strait of Hormuz Tanker Attack
The Government of India has taken a strong diplomatic stance following the death of an Indian national in an attack on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned senior officials from the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi on Tuesday, including Deputy Chief of Mission Mohammad Javad Hosseini. The incident reportedly claimed the life of one Indian citizen, while six other Indians were injured. India strongly condemned the attacks on the UAE oil tankers MT Al Bahia and MT Mombasa in the Strait of Hormuz. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that a total of 30 Indian seafarers were on board the two vessels at the time of the incident. One Indian lost his life in the attack, and several others sustained injuries. Following the incident, the MEA summoned Iran's Deputy Ambassador in New Delhi and lodged a strong diplomatic protest. India called for an immediate end to violence in the region, urged that the safety of all seafarers be ensured, and stressed the need to restore secure navigation and uninterrupted commercial shipping through international maritime routes. Earlier, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had stated that the two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz were struck in what it described as an alleged Iranian missile attack. According to the UAE, one Indian crew member was killed while eight others were injured. Of the injured, four were reported to be in critical condition. The UAE Ministry of Defence said the injured included six Indian nationals and two Ukrainian citizens. In its statement, the ministry condemned what it described as a "cowardly attack," calling it a serious violation of international law and a direct threat to regional security and stability.
