Gautam Adani Case Dismissed: US Court Ends Nearly Two-Year Legal Battle

A US court has dismissed the criminal case involving Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and former Adani Green CEO Vineet Jain over alleged fraud and bribery. The decision brings an end to the legal proceedings that had continued for nearly two years. US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis of the Eastern District of New York approved a Rule 48(a) motion filed by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) seeking to withdraw the charges in the case. The court dismissed the matter with prejudice, meaning the criminal proceedings have been permanently closed and the charges cannot be brought again. Case Began in November 2024 The case originated in November 2024, when US prosecutors alleged that officials associated with the Adani Group had conspired to pay USD 250 million in bribes to Indian government officials to secure solar power contracts in India. The Adani Group had rejected the allegations from the outset, describing them as baseless. In its petition before the court, the Trump administration's Department of Justice said that continuing with the case was no longer in the interests of justice. The Justice Department cited jurisdictional challenges and difficulties related to evidence. It also argued that the matter was primarily connected to India, where Indian authorities had already reviewed the allegations. Gautam Adani Welcomes Court Decision Following the court's decision, Gautam Adani shared a post on X welcoming the verdict. He said he accepted the US court's decision with humility and deep respect for the judicial process. Adani said that throughout the challenging period, his faith in truth, fairness and the rule of law had remained unwavering. He also expressed gratitude to everyone who continued to place their trust in him and in India's justice system.
