Kotkapura Labourer’s Family Gets Life-Changing Surprise as Woman Bags ₹1 Crore Lottery Prize

What began as a routine trip to buy clothes for her children has turned into a life-changing moment for a woman from Punjab's Kotkapura. Bimla Devi, whose husband works as a labourer to support the family, has won a ₹1 crore jackpot after purchasing a lottery ticket worth just ₹7.

According to the information available, Bimla Devi bought the ticket from the Star Lottery Stall located near the railway station on Railway Road. The ticket was purchased casually while she was in the market, with no expectation that it would soon bring such a significant financial reward.

The winning ticket was part of a lottery conducted by the Sikkim Government. After the results were announced, stall operator Naresh Monga contacted the family and informed them that Bimla Devi had won the first prize of ₹1 crore.

For the family, which has been managing household expenses through daily wage earnings, the prize money is expected to provide major financial relief. The unexpected win has also created new hope for securing a better future for their children.

Speaking about the development, Bimla Devi said that running the household on labour income had never been easy. She described the lottery win as a source of fresh optimism for the family and their children's future.

The family has not yet decided how the prize money will be used. Bimla Devi said that discussions will be held with other family members before making any decision. Among the options being considered is starting a small business to improve the family's financial condition and ensure better opportunities for the children.

Naresh Monga, who has been operating the lottery business for the past six months, said that several prize-winning tickets worth lakhs of rupees had previously been sold from his stall. However, this is the first time since shifting the shop near the railway station that a customer has won a major prize of ₹1 crore from the outlet.

The remarkable win has drawn attention in the local area, highlighting how a small purchase unexpectedly transformed the fortunes of a family from Kotkapura.
