Punjab Voter List SIR: First Round Completed, 20.66 Lakh Names Left Out of Draft List

Around five months ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, the first round of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s voter list has been completed. The Election Commission is scheduled to release the draft voter list today, August 13. According to the information, the names of 20.66 lakh voters included in the June 2026 electoral roll will not appear in the draft list for various reasons. Among them, around 9.5 lakh voters have permanently moved out of Punjab. Approximately 5.75 lakh voters have died, while nearly 1.20 lakh names have been identified as duplicates. In addition, the whereabouts or addresses of around 4.12 lakh voters could not be traced in Punjab. If a voter’s name is inadvertently left out of the draft list and they wish to have it included in the final electoral roll, they can submit a claim or objection before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Booth Level Officer (BLO) after the draft list is released. The process is also important for voters whose names are present in the draft electoral roll but whose records have not been mapped with the voter list from the previous SIR. Such voters will need to verify their names and details and submit a claim or objection along with the required documents under the prescribed procedure. This will help ensure that their names and details are correctly included in the final voter list. Appeal to Voters Voters have been advised to check their names and other details carefully after the draft electoral roll is released on August 13. In case a name is missing or there is any error in the voter record, the concerned voter can approach the ERO/BLO and file a claim or objection within the prescribed process.
