India Retain Asian Games Archery Title, Equal World Record With 238-234 Win Over China

India’s women’s compound archery team won the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games after defeating China 238-234 in the final at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square in Japan on Wednesday.
The Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep produced a strong performance throughout the final to secure the top position on the podium. The victory also allowed India to successfully defend the women’s compound team title it won at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
India’s score of 238 also equalled the world-record mark set by South Korea at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon. The Indian team finished just two points short of a perfect score of 240.
The Indian archers had reached the final after a closely contested semifinal against South Korea. India edged the Korean team 234-233 to book its place in the gold-medal clash.
Strong Performance by Indian Trio
Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep combined experience and youth to deliver the gold-medal performance.
Jyothi, 30, is one of India’s most accomplished compound archers. She had already won three gold medals at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou and has been a consistent presence in India’s international compound archery campaign.
Chikitha Taniparthi, 21, had also made a strong impression during the qualification stage at the 2026 Asian Games. She scored 705, a career-best mark, to finish at the top of the women’s compound individual qualification standings.
Prithika Pradeep, the youngest member of the Indian trio, has also produced notable results in junior and senior international competitions. Her performances have established her as one of the emerging names in Indian compound archery.
India’s Asian Games Record in the Event
India had previously won bronze in the women’s compound team event at the 2014 Asian Games and silver in 2018. The team then captured gold at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
The latest victory therefore gives India consecutive Asian Games gold medals in the women’s compound team event.
The gold medal was also a significant addition to India’s medal haul at the ongoing Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. At the time of the women’s compound archery victory, it was India’s seventh gold medal at the Games.
