US Ambassador Sergio Gor Pays Obeisance at Golden Temple in Amritsar Amid Tight Security

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Monday paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple, in Amritsar during his ongoing tour of different parts of India.
Elaborate security arrangements were put in place around the shrine and at various locations across the city in view of the ambassador’s visit. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) RPS Sandhu said adequate security arrangements had been made for Gor’s visit.
Gor has been travelling to different parts of India as part of his official engagements. Before visiting Amritsar, he had travelled to Srinagar and Leh.
During his visit to Sri Harmandir Sahib, the US ambassador was also honoured by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
Meanwhile, workers of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), led by the party’s acting president Emaan Singh Mann, held a demonstration with placards at the Golden Temple plaza during the ambassador’s visit.
Mann said that, according to his party, the growing tensions between India and Pakistan had created concerns for Punjab, particularly border areas of Amritsar. Referring to Operation Sindoor and the Indus Waters Treaty, he called for the resumption of dialogue between the two countries and restoration of cooperation over water.
Mann also claimed that his party submitted a seven-point memorandum to the US ambassador. According to him, the memorandum sought US diplomatic intervention to prevent war-like conditions between India and Pakistan, restoration of the Indus Waters Treaty, consideration of the TAPI pipeline project, and reopening of the Kartarpur Corridor for trade, travel and pilgrimage.
The party’s demands were presented during the demonstration and represent the position expressed by the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).
Security personnel were deployed at different points around Sri Harmandir Sahib as well as other parts of the city in view of the ambassador’s movement. Authorities also made arrangements to maintain security and law and order during the visit.
Gor’s Amritsar visit is part of his broader outreach across India. The visit had been scheduled to include prominent religious, historical and cultural sites in the city.
